Interview with ‘Granny’

Did you know that actress Irene Ryan who played Granny Clampett on TV’s Beverly Hillbillies appeared in the movie Bonzo Goes to College with Ronald Reagan and that she was a character, or recurring character on at least 15 different TV series? Of course you didn’t.
Better yet, did you know that Will Ryder’s Beverly Hillbillies parody is at least the fourth time it’s been attempted in porn?

Included on that exhaustive canvass of down home art, is the fact that there were two features titled “Beverly Thrillbillies” one which came out in 1988 from Erotic Video Network. Porn, in those days was less willing to risk copyright infringement suits, so character names and titles were broad approximations of their namesakes.

Hence, in director Fast Eddy Lawrence’s portrayal Jennifer Steel becomes “Ellie Ann” and Jesse Eastern is Jeb while Brook Summers is “Jane Holdaway”.

The second Beverly Thrillbillies is directed by Frank Marino for Zane Entertainment Group. While I don’t know whose idea this was, Dyanna Lauren plays both characters, Granny and Ellie Mae; T.T.Boy is Jethro and Jonathan Morgan is “Jeb”. Also in the cast is Deborah Wells, Lynn LeMay Nikki Shane and Sunny Ray.

Director Jim Enright, for In-X-Cess Productions, also took a shot at hillbilly immortality with his renditionof Beaverly Hillbillies. It starred Tiffany Million, Sahara Sands, Steven St.Croix, Mike Horner, the late Jon Dough and Jonathan Morgan, appearing a second time in a Hillbillies spoof, thus making him a totally obscure trivia question that’ll earn you a beer in any bar.

But any denizen of the cement pond can tell you that Ryder’s achievement, in shotgun parlance, blows away the competition. His casting is impeccable, and Haley Hewes [pictured], who plays Granny, is a gift from the gods.

Much like comedian Thomas Ward, whose uncanny resemblance to The Coz made him the only performer worth considering for the Cosby Show porn send up, so, too, Hewes prompts the double-take.

Even out of makeup, even without uttering a line with the granny voice, it doesn’t take a genius to recognize the fact that Hewes was born to play this part, although it sounds a bit sacrilegious to lend that kind of air to some cheesy porn production.

Ryder’s Beverly Hillbillies, on the other hand, is far from a dairy product. It’s the gold standard for porn comedy, and Hewes’ performance is Ft. Knox to X-Play and Adam & Eve who are putting out the movie. Which makes you wonder what would have happened had Ryder chose an 88 year-old woman who also auditioned for the role.

“You came in and were fantastic,” Ryder tells Hewes in a BTS segment.

“You have been everything I thought you’d be after the audition. And I’m really happy that you’re in this movie.”

Hewes, 60, grew up in Gulfport, Mississippi, lived in New York and has had a lead part in Broadway.

“I’ve studied acting there, and did quite a bit of theater. I started doing films and came out to Hollywood and did thirtysomething.”

Hawes got married and divorced and stayed in Los Angeles.

“What I like about doing TV is that you have a lot of the character inside and you just allow it to come out. And the camera catches you. Whereas on stage you got to project everything out.”

Although Hewes considers herself more of a television film actress than Broadway performer, Beverly Hillbillies XXX is the first time she’s ever been on a porn set.

“I’ve learned some things,” Hewes smiles.

“It’s kind of what I thought it would be. I learned a lot of terminology, and I’ve learned that there’s all different kinds of ways people... express themselves in art."

Though Hewes didn’t explain what she meant by art in the porn sense although she stayed clear of the filming of the sex scenes.

“It was the choice I made to know my fellow actors outside of sexual activity. That’s just a choice I made.”


In other words, Hewes kept her nose clean.

“That part of human behavior is something I like to keep private,” she explains.

“It’s just a choice I made. It’s more a part of my perceptions and relationships with people.”

“But I really felt a kinship with the cast. I really enjoyed working with them, and the crew. I never did this kind of role before, and I really love it,” says Hewes, who's performed stunts in addition to acting.

Hard to believe, but Hewes grew up without TV.

“My mother wanted us to read so I actually didn’t start watching stuff until I got away from home. I didn’t watch the show when it first came out but later. I loved that show.”

Hewes said she’d be quite happy if she got nominated for a Best Non-Sex Performance award.

“It’s a great well-written script,” she says.

“I thought it was fabulous. I was very impressed with it.”

Bill Cosby Apparently Enjoyed the Parody on Playboy TV but One Cast Member Hates It

(Hollywood, CA) Anniversaries and birthdays come and go so quickly but September 20^th was quietly celebrated by adult movie director Will Ryder and some of the talented cast members of Not the Cosbys XXX because it’s the day the Cosby Show first aired on NBC back in 1984 paving the way for a pair of ground-breaking porn parodies of the wholesome family television show.

Many people feel that what X-Play and the movie’s distributor LFP did with the two porn parodies were in extremely bad taste given the fact that the NBC show was such an iconic family institution but some thought the movies were wonderfully done and in very good taste.

“I can see why some might say that we acted in bad taste but we are fans of the show and of Bill Cosby and our parody is about as good as any parody gets so we actually are really proud that we were able to make a ground-breaking interracial porn movie that critics and fans love,” Ryder remarked.

In fact Not the Cosbys XXX won the 2010 AVN Award for Best Parody and Best Non-Sex Performance by Bill Cosby’s mirror image Thomas Ward who played Cliff Huxtable with extreme humor and dignity.  It also garnered many other best-movie awards including top honors from NightMoves, XCritic.com, RogReviews.com and others.

“I know for a fact that Bill Cosby watched Not the Cosbys XXX and really like it,” Ward said.

When pressed for further details Ward offered, “He saw it on Playboy TV and thought it was funny as hell.”

However one noteable cast member of Not the Cosbys XXX no longer shares any enthusiasm for the porn version.

“They should all be put in jail for what they did to poor little Rudy Huxtable,” crowed Monica Foster who back during production happily played mother Claire Huxtable in the spoof.

“I mean look at those cute little clothes she was wearing right before she had sex. It’s a disgrace,” Foster grimaced.

“Unfortunately at least one of our cast members I am hearing about suffers from some type of possible mental illness but I am not a doctor so I will defer to Dr. Huxtable on all medical questions,” Ryder countered.

“Of course Rudy is dressed up in cute little colorful clothes because that’s how she looked on the Cosby Show and our porno looks just like the television show,” Ryder blasted.

Adult superstar Misty Stone agreed.  “I’ve heard all that crazy talk about Rudy’s outfit and that’s exactly what it is crazy.  Crazy is as crazy does.”

“Now Misty is one hell of a star,” barked Will Ryder.

“It was my breakthrough role and I’m so glad I was able to play Denise in both movies. I am grateful to Will Ryder for casting me,” Stone concluded.

On a beautiful anniversary day all is well in the land of Not the Cosbys XXX and there is talk of a possible third volume.
